A fascinating but thoughtful day at Deception Island.
A geographical oddity with a wildness, but tinged with a hint of sadness at the death of so many beautiful whales in one place. Although easy to look at past events without the context of the times the subsequent destruction by a volcanic eruption is almost a fitting epitaph to mankind's attack on wildlife. So I will depart Deception with contrasting emotions but the Weddell Sea awaits with the prospects of encounters of a more natural kind once more.
