“Under Motor power” with the help of some fore & aft sails
25 days Out from Ascension
38°-34'N : 032°-27'W
Course= -095° -Motor/Sailing on Port-tack as close to the wind as possible.
Wind = E-NE. Forecast = slowly backing to the NE later in the day
Second day on engines but we made a tack this morning and now heading to the Islands.
We have Flores 75M on our Port Bow and Faial 180 Miles ahead of us.
We hope to set some more sails during the rest of the day and maybe shut down one engine.
The air brought to us along the East flank of this High pressure system is a lot colder then we got used to the last couple of weeks. Singlets and shorts are gone and sweaters and trousers are trendy today. Only Boreas did not change his outfit and seems to have no problems with these new temperatures.
The flea market yesterday was a great success, lots of business took place and the creativity of the participants was great. Musicians, a Massage therapist, a Cookie baker and a flower Cutter (out of wood) besides others, made great deals.
Our focus is now on the “Land Ho” for the coming 24 hours, if the horizon is sharp and clear somebody should spot the Volcano on the Island of Pico 2.351 meter high and being the highest mountain of Portugal.
Done 24 hrs =135M in 049° = 5,6 kts Average,
Done 601 hrs = 3.694,5M = 6,1 kts Average,
Horta: 180M in Bearing 090°
Alles Wel
