Having no experience with sailing I volunteered for the first night watch and found myself pulling lines and hoisting sails for the first time somewhere between Moorea and Raiatea, in the middle of the night under a clear sky covered with stars and the Milky Way like I had never seen before. The symphony of the movement of the ship over the waves, feeling the wind, the sound of the wind in the sails, and the silence of everything else, under the beauty of the stars was an almost magical experience.
